Jovani Fashions, Ltd. - Powerhouse Behind All-Out Fashion and Glamour
Jovani Fashion was founded in 1980 by Jacob Maslavi and his sons, Abraham and Saul Maslavi. This New York based fashion house started as a small operation with a total of 10 people working, manufacturing only 15 styles of evening gowns for specialty boutiques. Saul Maslavi first caught the fashion bug when working with his father, and he was soon attending night classes so that he could help his dad run the business. He was soon in love with the competitiveness and challenges that he faced in the industry and embraced everything that he encountered.
In 1990, Jovani decided to diversify their styles of dresses, moving into the increasingly popular prom and cocktail dress designs. The market was certainly booming, and Jovani was aiming to get as much of the market as they were capable of supplying. In 1996, Jovani took on board designer Sherri Hill, and they gave her the task of expanding the current pageant and prom market that they were supplying. Expanding the Jovani collection was no easy feat, but Sherri grabbed the opportunity and ran with it. She would later go on to be a celebrated designer with a fashion line of her own. With a lot of hard work and dedication, the Saul’s and Abraham’s vision for the company was propelled to being a household name that they are today.
A new chapter in Jovani’s history started when Saul decided to open the second showroom in Atlanta, Georgia in and was later included in the list of fashion designers and companies featured on Brooklyn Fashion Week. It was the first time that Jovani was features in the show. In 2013 Jovani Fashion partnered with the non-profit organization Operation PROM, on a mission to provide prom dresses for underprivileged high school students. Over the years Jovani has continued to grow their collection to beyond just evening dresses, and now has a variety of collections that range from prom, mother of the bride, cocktail, contemporary and bridal.
